President and Chief Operating Officer

  • Tom joined AAC as President and COO in April 2008. He brings 33 years aerospace experience with the United States Air Force. He served as a command pilot, with over 4,000 hours in the O-2A, F-4, F-16 and F-15E, including over 900 hours combat time.
  • Graduating from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1969, he completed pilot training and served as a forward air controller flying the O2-A in Vietnam.
  • He flew F-4’s from Holloman A.F.B., New Mexico and Hahn AFB, Germany. Tom helped transition the wing at Hahn from the F-4 to the F-16 and commanded an F-16 fighter squadron there.
  • Tom transferred to the Pentagon, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, as an action officer, tactical weapons requirements for the Deputy Chief of Staff for Research, Development and Acquisition. He was executive officer for the Director of Operational Requirements and was selected as the first Air Force Chief of Staff Chair on the faculty of the National War College.
  • From there he was assigned as Vice Commander, 363rd Tactical Fighter Wing at Shaw Air Force Base, with operational F-16 deployments to Bahrain, Oman and Saudi Arabia. He went on to command the 51st Wing in Korea and helped introduce the first operational F-16 LANTIRN capability to the Pacific theater. After a year as the Pacific Air Forces Inspector General, he was selected to command the 3rd Wing in Alaska. Called back to the Pentagon, he served as the AF Director of Modeling, Simulation and Analysis and as the AF Director of Command and Control.
  • Tom then joined the joint world as Central Command’s Director of Operations and then Deputy Commander in Chief and Chief of Staff. Next he came back to Alaska as the Commander of Alaskan Command, Alaska NORAD Region and 11th Air Force. He concluded his active duty service as the Deputy Commander in Chief and Chief of Staff, U.S. Pacific Command.
  • Tom is a graduate of the Army Command & General Staff College, the National War College, and Emory University’s Advanced Management Program. He has a Master of Science degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. Most recently, he served as Dean of the University of Alaska Anchorage’s College of Business & Public Policy.
  • Tom and his wife Susan live in Anchorage, Alaska, and have a grown daughter who lives in Oregon. A favorite activity is flying his float plane, fishing and exploring in the great Alaskan outdoors.
