| • AADC is a public corporation formed in 1991 by the State of Alaska. Its mission is to provide space launch services, to foster new space-related industries in the state, and to stimulate interest in space careers and technology among Alaska’s young people. • AADC owns and operates the Kodiak Launch Complex. • Construction of KLC began in 1998 and was completed in 2000. It is the first commercial spaceport in the U.S. not collocated with a federally-owned and operated launch facility. • There have been eleven launches from the KLC since 1998. The next launch is planned for Fall 2007. + View KLC launch list • Kodiak is in an advantageous location for launching satellites into polar orbits and research and development payloads into sub-orbits. KLC offers unrestricted flight azimuths, with no need for dogleg flight segments. • Kodiak is also ideal as a test site to support the nation’s Missile Defense Program. Launches from Kodiak are on a trajectory over the North Pacific which can simulate an enemy missile attack on the continental U.S. + Read more about KLC’s ideal location • Other than an initial state grant to match federal funds, there have been no state general funds appropriated to AADC. The corporation has received a number of federal grants and also receives revenues from launch operations. + View AADC Annual Report |
